How accurate is ShopXray's sales tracking?
ShopXray's tracking accuracy depends on your plan level:
Basic Tracking (Free Plan):
Detects whether products are in-stock or out-of-stock. When a product goes from in-stock to out-of-stock, ShopXray records it as a sell-out event. This gives you directional intelligence about which products are selling, but doesn't provide exact unit counts.
Advanced Tracking (Paid Plans):
Uses our proprietary detection methods to identify exact inventory quantities for every product variant. For example, if a product goes from 47 units to 42 units between scans, ShopXray records 5 units sold and calculates the revenue at 5 × the product's price.
Advanced tracking provides highly accurate sales data for the vast majority of Shopify stores. However, accuracy can be affected by:
-
Stores that manually adjust inventory for reasons other than sales (e.g., warehouse reconciliation)
-
Stores using certain inventory management apps that modify stock levels programmatically
-
Products with very high sales velocity between scan intervals (some sales between scans may be missed)
For most competitive research use cases, ShopXray's tracking provides more than sufficient accuracy to understand competitor performance, validate product ideas, and identify trending items.
